Prostitution :
She leans against the rusty pole that dimly lights the street Popping her gum and twirling her hair waiting for someone to meet A vehicle rolls to a stop in front of her and invites her in She accepts the invitation and travels to her place of business She does her deed and picks up her cash And returns to the rust post looking for her next ride A few more come and go and the cash is flowing She starts to believe she is making something of herself What this 16 year old girl doesn't realize She is exposed to life too soon She has reduced herself to a product for sale Never truly getting paid for what she does |
Analysis :
Prostitution is a poem written by an unknown person on the internet. This poem is a ‘free verse’ poem, that means it does not have an often rhyme. This poem is about a girl who is a prostitute, sits on the street and wait for her customers. This poem is also about how this girl doesn't realize what she is doing and what she is actually up for. The message or main theme of this poem is when you are a prostitute, you have no idea what you're doing. I think one of the main theme was sadness, because it's really sad that so many girls around the world are prostitutes and this poem is reflecting on that. The tone created in the poem is pitiful, sorrowfulness, and sadness. These tones are all about the poems it self. One main language technique was rhyme, for example 'lights the street, waiting for someone to meet'. In the poem , it starts of with a rhyme and has rhythm in it, so the beginning is all joyful and happy, but slowly towards the end, the rhyming and the rhythm stop and it turns all serious. This is where the message of this poem comes in. My personal opinion of the poem is, I think this is a nice poem yet it's sad. This poem has a lot of meaning in it. |
