The Fog :
Slowly the fog, Hunched-shouldered with a grey face, Arms wide, advances, Finger-tips touching the way Past the dark houses And dark gardens of roses. Up the short street from the harbour, Slowly the fog, Arms wide, shoulders hunched, Searching, searching, Out through the streets to the fields, Slowly the Fog - A blind man hunting the moon. |
Analysis :
The Fog, is a poem written by F.R McCreary. This poem is a personification poem, that means there is a lot of 'person-like' movement described in this poem. This poem is about a fog moving slowly through a town, and the fog is being described as a human-like person. The message or main theme about this poem is fogs too can be described as human-like. One of the main theme of this poem is probably change because, in this poem, it starts of with a normal landscape, and suddenly the fog comes in and it changed everything. It changes everything to make it sound all evil and scary and how beautiful nature can turn into scary nature. The tone created in this poem is evil because the fog is described as dark and evil. The language technique used in this poem are contrast, without contrast it won't be as scary. Personification, its everywhere, it's definitely the main theme of this poem. Repetition is also used quite a lot in this poem. Example of contrast would be, ' A blind man hunting the moon'. Example of personification,' hunched-shoulder with a grey face'. An example of repetition, 'slowly the fog' is repeated a lot. My personal opinion of this poem is, I like how they use the personification, it really stands out. Also the contrast added to the personification makes it more detailed. These two things make it really work. |
